Studies show advantages of treating Lenke 5C AIS with posterior arthrodesis

The classic treatment for patients with Lenke 5C thoracolumbar/lumbar adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is no longer the best acceptable treatment option, according to results of a recent study.
Investigators from the United Kingdom found posterior spine fusion with pedicle screw instrumentation was effective in their study of 72 patients who had 2 years follow-up and 80% mean curve correction. In an article about their findings in the April issue ofOrthopaedics Today Europe, they discuss five preoperative radiographic parameters that can help physicians determine if it is necessary to extend the fusion distal to the caudal Cobb level. Click here to read more.
