La escoliosis es cualquier curvatura lateral anormal de la columna vertebral que mide al menos 10 grados en una radiografía. Si bien la escoliosis no es una enfermedad, en casos raros puede ser causada por una enfermedad. Con mayor frecuencia, sin embargo, la escoliosis se desarrolla a partir de una causa desconocida durante la adolescencia o de la degeneración espinal durante la edad adulta.
